Jammu, April 27 (Inditop) Defence Minister A.K. Antony Monday visited frontier areas in Jammu and Kashmir amid fears of increased militant and arms incursion from across the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border which divides the state between India and Pakistan.
Antony was briefed on the prevailing security situation along the LoC, a military spokesman said here.
He visited the forward posts accompanied by Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, defence secretary Vijay Singh, Northern Command commanding officer Lt. Gen. P.C. Bhardwaj and the general officer commanding of the Udhampur based 16 Corps.
The defence minister also addressed troops in Rajouri lauding “the role of the Indian Army in curbing infiltration and reducing the levels of insurgency”, the spokesman said.
He said it was due to the army’s “efforts and proactive stance” that ensured incident free elections in the state last year and this year so far.
