Moscow, April 22 (Inditop.com/RIA Novosti) All 96 bodies recovered from the wreckage of the Polish presidential plane, which crashed near Smolensk in Russia April 10, have been identified, an official has said.
The Soviet-made Tu-154 aircraft carrying a top-level Polish delegation, including President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, hit a few trees as it attempted to land at an airport in thick fog. There were 88 passengers and eight crewmembers in the plane.
“Health Minister Tatyana Golikova has once again expressed her condolences to the Polish people and announced that the genetic expertise was completed today and all the bodies were identified,” an aide for the minister said Wednesday.
The Polish president and other officials were en route to a ceremony in Katyn in Russia to pay tribute to some 20,000 Polish soldiers killed by Soviet secret police during World War II.
Kaczynski and the first lady were laid to rest in Krakow Sunday.
