Chandigarh, April 22 (Inditop.com) The Haryana government has directed irrigation officials to fill up ponds and other water bodies in the state on a priority basis to avoid problems in the sweltering summer.
“We have directed the officials concerned that water bodies in the state should be filled up on a priority basis. Regular monitoring will be done and judicious use of water will be ensured so that optimum utilisation of the available resources could be made in the state,” Irrigation Minister Ajay Singh Yadav said here Thursday.
“We are committed to provide potable and irrigation water to each resident of Haryana.”
The irrigation department has assured that the directions would be followed.
“Most of the ponds have been already filled up and efforts are on to fill up the remaining ponds and other water bodies to meet the requirement of the people in summers. All water bodies are being filled up according to the requirement of panchayats (village councils),” Principal Secretary (Irrigation) K.K. Jalan said.
