Bogota, April 27 (Inditop.com/EFE) At least 300 inmates of 2,600 at a Colombian prison showed symptoms of food poisoning and had to be hospitalised, officials said.
Colombian health authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the mass poisoning during the weekend at the Picaleña prison in Ibague city, municipal health secretary Juan Manuel Mosquera said Monday.
Prison warden Francisco Javier Sandoval, however, said only 24 inmates were having “stomach problems” and were attended to in the prison infirmary.
“We’ve reviewed the food consumed in the last three days to determine where the poisoning originated, to know if some product among the ones that were consumed … was damaged,” Sandoval said.
