The newly launched Renault Kwid has taken the hatchback market by storm by clicking 50,000 booking in just 5 weeks since it was launched and was thrown open for bookings. Current Renault not being able to meet the demand has stopped the bookings as they do not want to fall back on the promise chain and have huge waiting lists for their car.

In light of this success, Carlos Ghosn, the CEO of Renault expressed during an interview at the Tokyo Auto Show, “I am delighted at the response, and I just want our team to transform it into market share. For the moment, the bookings are very strong and now we need to transform this into market share.”

He did have a point there because currently Renault holds only 5% of the overall Auto market share here in India and they plan to double this figure by the end of 2016. In this endeavor, they have their hoped pinned on the Kwid to come through for them.

This success for the Kwid is not a surprise as it is the most value for money car in the market today that gives you a lovely crossover look, body colour painted bumpers, wheel covers, Bluetooth and USB support, MEDIANAV touchscreen display of 7 inches, digital instrument display, driver airbag, power windows and more for just INR 3.53 lakhs ex-showroom. The AMT version of the Kwid is also going to come while the diesel version has been denied by the company.

The Renault Kwid is a very capable car and comes with a new and developed from scratch 799 cc three pot petrol engine that churns out 54 PS at 5600 RPM and 72 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM. It comes paired to a 5 speed manual transmission and has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency figure of 25.17 Kmpl making it the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country. It is in direct competition with the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Celerio, Chevrolet Spark, Hyundai Eon, etc.
