New Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS) A total of 3,516 visitors availed the Visa on Arrival (VoA) scheme of the government, intended to attract more foreign tourists to India, between January and July, officials said Monday.

This scheme, launched January this year, was applicable for citizens of Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes.

During the seven-month period, the maximum number of VoAs were issued at Delhi airport (1,838), followed by Mumbai (769), Chennai (727) and Kolkata (182).

According to a government official, the number of maximum number of tourists using the benefit were from Singapore.

‘In these seven months, we saw 1,164 tourists from Singapore followed by New Zealand (856), Finland (847), Japan (625) and Luxembourg (24),’ the official said.

The total number of such visas issued in July were 365.

These included 104 Japanese tourists, 124 from Singapore, 88 from New Zealand, 45 from Finland and four from Luxembourg (4), the official said.
