New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS) Pursuing its social welfare agenda, the Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC) will take up Jan 16 the issues of welfare of unorganised sector workers and nomadic and denotified tribes, sources said Tuesday.
‘The issues on the table are the ones being carried forward from previous meetings,’ said NAC sources.
The advisory body could not meet in December owing to the winter session of parliament.
The NAC working group on social security for unorganised sector workers earlier presented draft proposals to make the Unorganised Sector Workers’ Social Security Act, 2008, as inclusive as possible.
Sources said the council wants a comprehensive social security package that would include health insurance, maternity assistance, life-cum-disability insurance scheme and a pension plan to be provided to such workers through a single window.
The council reviewed the proposal and advised the working group in November to finalise the implementation mechanisms and financing arrangements, and present the revised draft recommendations.
