Kolkata, Aug 4 (IANS) Apeejay Tea has tied up with Keventer Agro to launch global tea brand Typhoo in eastern India, a top Apeejay official said here Wednesday.
Following the agreement, Keventer would be responsible for marketing and distribution in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, North East in addition to West Bengal and Bhutan.
Apeejay had acquired the Typhoo brand in 2005.
The Apeejay Surrendra Group is also likely to enter into packet tea market with a joint-venture with Keventer Agro.
‘Packet tea market is something we are seriously looking into. We are exploring this opportunity very seriously,’ Group Chairman Karan Paul said.
Asked about the timeline, Mayank Jalan, Keventer Agro Managing Director, said: ‘Very soon…preferably by March 2011.’
Apeejay Surrendra Group owns 17 estates spread in Assam and produces close to 25 million kgs of tea every year.
