New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS) Tipplers kept the cash registers of the Delhi government ringing in April-December, bring in Rs.1,707 crore and making the Rs.2,300 crore target for the fiscal till March 31, 2012 achievable, an official said.
According to an excise department official, sales in the first nine months of 2011-2012 rose 23 percent from the Rs.1,372 crore in the like period of the previous fiscal.
‘The excise department has targeted revenue of Rs 2,300 crore through the sale of alcohol in 2011-12. There has been a four-fold increase since the Rs.560.43 crore earned in 2000-01,’ the official said.
And, with a spate of successfull Bollywood hits at the theatres, entertainment tax brought in Rs.66 crore in the first nine months of the current fiscal, the official said.
