Chennai, Oct 1 (IANS) Commercial vehicles major Ashok Leyland closed September with 21 percent increase in volumes as compared to the sales posted in the same month of 2011.
According to a statement issued by the company here Monday, the total sales last month was 10,623 units up from 8,803 units sold in September 2011.
The increase in sales numbers were contributed by the company’s small commercial vehicle Dost whereas there was a negative growth in the heavy and medium commercial vehicles segment.
The company sold 3,027 units of Dost up from 196 sold in September 2011. The heavy and medium commercial vehicles logged sales of 7,596 units last month down from 8,607 units sold in September 2011.
On the other hand, the India-Japanese passenger vehicle joint venture Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 12,115 units last month down from 12,807 units sold during comparable period last year.
“We have seen a drop in sales last month. The market has been quite sluggish and the market sentiments are very low in the passenger car segment. We hope to see it picking up in the festive season. On the export front, we exported 2,176 units of the Etios series to South Africa last month,” Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director-marketing, was quoted as saying in a company statement.
