New Delhi, July 22 (Inditop.com) Beleaguered national carrier Air India, struggling to stay afloat, announced special fares on select domestic routes Wednesdy to attract passengers during the lean monsoon season.

The airline said in a statement that tickets under the special fares could be purchased up to three days before the travel and would be valid till Sep 20.

The special fares are offered in two categories. The first category of fares are available on 24 domestic sectors of Air India and would comprise basic fares and passenger service fee, the release said.

“No fuel surcharge would be applicable on these fares,” it added.

The Mumbai-Hyderabad ticket under this offer would cost Rs.2,079.

Similarly, a Mumbai-Kochi air ticket would cost Rs.3,279 and Mumbai-Bangalore Rs.2,779, Air India added.

In the second category, special fares would be offered on 70 select domestic routes and exclusive of all taxes and passenger service fee, the airline said.

Air India, which accumulated losses of over Rs.5,000 crore ($1 billion) last fiscal, has sought a bailout from the government, which asked it to first put its house in order. The airline’s board is also set for a recast.
