Patna, Jan 30 (IANS) More than 7.7 million people have obtained caste, income and domicile certificates under the Right to Public Services (RTPS) Act which was enacted in Bihar last year, an official said Monday.

Principal Secretary (general administration department) Deepak Kumar said a total of 9.1 million people have applied for certificates since the RTPS Act came into effect Aug 15 last year.
“Out of the 9.1 million applications received, more than 7.7 million have obtained different certificates in the last six months,” Kumar said.
He added that online monitoring of the applications is being done.
More than one lakh applications were filed after the launch of the online facility Dec 1 last year.
Last year, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the act will ensure timely and transparent delivery of public services. In the first phase, time limits have been prescribed for 50 public services.
Earlier, he warned that government officials who do not deliver services within a stipulated time will be fined up to Rs.5,000.
