New Delhi, March 18 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday blamed the Congress-led UPA government for the “bad economic situation” in the country, saying it cannot put the entire blame on global slowdown.
“Government is using global economic slowdown as an excuse for everything. Your own surveys are saying that internal factors are also responsible for the bad economic situation,” BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu said, initiating the debate on the general budget in the Rajya Sabha.
“There are 48 countries that grew faster than India, what prevented us? We need prudent economic policies and good governance,” he said.
The BJP leader also said that the growth during the United Progressive Alliance-I government (2004-09) was an after effect of the growth during BJP-led NDA government’s rule.
“In 2004, the growth was over eight percent, now it is five percent. For few years, you enjoyed the fruit of what the BJP-led government did. That was a turning point for our economy,” he said.
