Kolkata, July 19 (Inditop.com) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Sunday met police and administrative officials of Purulia, one of the three Maoist-hit districts in the state, to discuss the law and order situation and ways to speed up development.
“We’re now focusing on development in terms of increasing the total irrigation area in Purulia district. This apart, encouraging rainwater harvesting is another important area which the state government is trying to develop,” Bhattacharjee told a press conference.
He said the drinking water crisis is another major problem in this district and the state government is also trying to resolve the issue.
“I’ve enquired about the progress of the rural electrification project in the district and came to know that there are few backward villages where there’s no electricity so far. I hope we’ll be able to reach out to those villages with electricity by June next year.”
According to sources, Bhattacharjee held talks with senior police officials and reviewed the law and order situation particularly in four Maoist violence-affected blocks of Purulia district.
“Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty and other state government officials have already taken a note of everything. We’ll try to address all these issues as early as possible,” he said.
