Chandigarh, Nov 30 (IANS) More than 60 exhibitors from nine countries will participate in Agro Tech 2010 to be held here from Friday, an official said.
Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the fair will see 225 exhibitors, including 63 from countries like Canada, France, Germany, South Korea, the US and Britain.
‘The need of the hour is sustainable agriculture and Agro Tech 2010 is specially focused up on to address this issue. Growth in agriculture is important as planning commission has also laid down a growth target of 4 per cent for agriculture and related sector in the 11th five-year plan,’ CII’s northern region chairman R.M. Khanna told reporters here Tuesday.
‘South Korea and France have set up pavilions for the first time at Agro Tech. This is a strong evidence of growing international interest in the Indian agriculture sector,’ he added.
The ninth edition of the fair will be held at parade ground here in Sector 17 from Dec 3-6.
Salil Singhal, chairman of Agro Tech 2010, said: ‘With our focus on sustainable agriculture, there would be many new features like ‘kisan goshthis’, which would educate farmers about the latest techniques and also help them to link with corporates.’
He said there would also be workshops on organic farming, irrigation and soil conservation, among others.
