Chandigarh, July 15 (Inditop.com) Chandigarh will come on the international aviation map from August, said a top Punjab government official here Wednesday.
“International flights from here will begin in August. Additional X-ray machines and other infrastructure will be installed this month,” said Punjab Chief Secretary S.C. Aggarwal.
To facilitate late night international flights, air traffic control (ATC) operations will be extended till midnight, he said. There are only five flights to Chandigarh currently, all during the day.
“Fly Dubai intended to start its first international flight from this airport in July but due to the delay in installation of required infrastructure at the airport, it could not materialise,” said Aggarwal.
The Indian Air Force reportedly also denied its permission to Fly Dubai because the ATC is operational only till 8 p.m. The Chandigarh airport falls in the defence enclave.
“Security personnel will be provided by the Punjab government whereas computers and X-ray machines will be installed by the Chandigarh administration and the Airports Authority of India respectively,” Aggarwal said.
