Raipur, Nov 7 (IANS) The Chhattisgarh government will invest Rs.250 crore to create a 60-km-long canal to connect two key reservoirs in the state and bring 30,000 hectares under irrigation.
‘The government has approved a Rs.250 crore project to connect Gangrel reservoir in Dhamtari district to Tandula reservoir in Durg district. The project will bring in at least 30,000 hectare areas under irrigation,’ an official of the water resources department told IANS here Sunday.
He added that survey work had begun for the project, which will be completed by fiscal 2013-14.
The project will help thousands of farmers in two paddy growing districts, Dhamtari and Durg, to reap higher productions after the project is completed.
Chhattisgarh is one of the main paddy growing states of the country. But around 65 percent of its paddy growing areas are dependant entirely on the monsoon rains.
