New Delhi, July 1 (IANS) The Delhi government Friday decided to facilitate the replacement of dangling electricity wires by underground cables in the capital’s old quarters, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said.
‘The government will help replace the shabby hanging wires with underground wires. These hanging wires have been affecting beauty of the walled city, which is otherwise being taken in high esteemed due to its historical importance,’ she said.
Dikshit also said that Delhi would have an additional power supply of around 1,500 MW from the Bawana and Jhajjhar power stations after a few months.
She also assured Delhi residents that they will continue to have quality and adequate power supply in future.
‘The power reforms in Delhi have brought in a sea change apart from bringing substantial improvement in satisfaction level of the customers. The reforms in Delhi are being turned as a role model and are being emulated by other states and even by a few foreign countries,’ said Dikshit.
She said that the journey of power supply in Delhi, which started in 1905 with 2 MW generation, has come a long way as Delhi has been able to successfully met pa ower demand of around 5,000 MW.
