New Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS) Residents of a building in Laxmi Nagar area of east Delhi panicked after seeing cracks in the structure and informed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, a civic body official said Monday,
‘The MCD got information from the residents of building number G-53 in Laxmi Nagar that the flat has developed cracks and it was looking very dangerous. Following the complaint, an MCD team made a thorough survey of the entire building, got the building vacated and sealed it,’ MCD spokesman Deep Mathur said.
Stressing there was no imminent danger to the building, he said the building has, however, been kept under technical observation.
‘Glass and paper strips have been placed on the existing cracks which appeared to be old. Our engineering staff have also visited the place and they monitored if there is any variation in width of the cracks,’ Mathur said.
A decision on the stability of the building would be established in a few days on examination of the width of the cracks, he said.
‘Appropriate action will be taken only after submission of the final report based on examination of technical inputs.’
A five-storey illegally constructed house collapsed in neighbouring Lalita Park area Nov 15, killing at least 69 people and injuring 82. Most of the victims were daily wage workers from Bihar and West Bengal.
