New Delhi, July 3 (IANS) The Delhi government Wednesday decided to widen the ambit of Dilli Annshree Yojna to ensure food security in the city by easing eligibility norms for availing the benefits of the scheme.
According to the “liberlaised” eligibility criteria cleared in a cabinet meeting chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday, households’ heads who have been living in the national capital since January 1, 2010, will be eligible for the scheme.
They must not be beneficiaries of the ration distributed under the Public Distribution System (PDS) and their annual income must not exceed Rs.100,000.
Under the scheme that was launched in December 2012, Rs.600 is transferred as food subsidy through Aadhaar-based bank accounts.
“Dilli Annshree Yojana is a sincere effort to ensure food security in the city. The cabinet has decided to broadbase the scheme by liberalising eligibility criteria,” Dikshit told reporters here.
The scheme aims to provide relief to over two lakh families not covered under the PDS. One lakh households are currently covered under the scheme.
The Delhi government April 16 decided to extend the benefit under Dilli Annshree Yojana to widows getting pensions and up to 500 vulnerable families per circle based on recommendations of the respective vigilance committees.
