New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) The Delhi Metro Thursday began tunnelling work in west Delhi’s Palam area as part of its Phase III expansion, an official said.

The tunnel at Palam on the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden (Noida) corridor will help connect areas like Janakpuri and Dabri in west Delhi to south Delhi areas like Nehru Place and Hauz Khas.
“The tunnel which starts from the Palam metro station will emerge at the end of the Dwarka flyover (towards Dhaula Kuan) after covering a distance of 1.51 km, from where the alignment will become elevated,” said a Delhi Metro statement.
Expected to be completed by December, the tunnel is one among the 74 tunnels planned by the Delhi Metro to be constructed in Phase III.
DMRC is scheduled to build 53 km of underground Metro lines as part of its Phase III construction work which involves seven projects. Phase III is scheduled to be completed by 2016-end.
