Bangalore, April 30 (IANS) S. Gopalakrishnan, who was Saturday named executive co-chairman of the Infosys, and his successor CEO S.D. Shibulal are founders of the IT bellwether along with N.R. Narayana Murthy and four others.
Gopalkrishnan, Kris to his colleagues, became the third managing director and chief executive officer of Infosys in 2007 succeeding another founder Nandan Nilekani, who left to take up the job of head of India’s Unique Identification Programme.
Born in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala in 1956, Krish acquired a Master’s degrees in Physics (1977) and Computer Science (1979) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
At Infosys he began with handling management of design, development, implementation, and support of information systems for clients in the consumer products industry in the US.
In 1994, he became deputy managing director of Infosys. He has also served as the company’s chief operating officer, president and joint managing director.
Kris was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2011.
His successor as CEO and MD of Infosys, S.D. Shibulal is also a co-founder of the company.
The 55-year-old, Kerala-born Shibulal has a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Kerala and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Boston.
At Infosys Shibu started the journey spearheading its project management, followed by client relationships in North American region for a decade.
Between 1991-96 he was with Sun Microsystems taking care for designing and implementing their first e-commerce application.
He returned to Infosys in 1997 to start the Internet Consultancy practice.
On June 22, 2007, he succeeded Kris Gopalakrishnan as chief operating officer.
