New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) Nordic carrier Finnair Thursday said it will host a competition Sep 20 for its Helsinki-Singapore flight passengers, who will play the popular video game Angry Birds.

‘This avian alliance is one example of Finnair’s creative, fresh way of operating,’ said Jarkko Konttinen, vice president, global brand and marketing communications, Finnair.

During the flight, Angry Birds fans and other passengers will be able to participate in a competition on game consoles distributed to passengers and specially programmed for the event.

Angry Birds has become hugely popular since its debut in 2009 and has been developed by Finland-based firm Rovio Mobile and has been downloaded 350 million times to various platforms till date.

According to the airline, contestants can also enter the competition by sending in their entries explaining why they are the most dedicated fans of the game.

‘The five most popular fans and two-three favourites selected by a jury will be awarded flight tickets to Singapore,’ the carrier said in a statement.

‘The winner of the competition, to be played at an altitude of 10 kilometres, will become the proud holder of the very first ‘Angry Birds Asian Challenge’ title,’ the statement said.

The company said that it will double its Asian flight operations to 140 per week by 2020.

‘Finnair is a significant player in traffic between Asia and Europe, and our goal is to double the number of Asian flights to 140 flights per week by 2020,’ Konttinen said.
