New Delhi, July 13 (Inditop.com) Gammon India, the company carrying out the construction work at the Delhi Metro site where six people were killed Sunday as a section of an elevated viaduct collapsed, Monday said it was not responsible and that it would conduct its own investigations.
“We are not responsible. Gammon India is fully aware of its social and technical responsibilities,” a company spokesperson said while reading out a statement.
“Gammon is conducting an internal investigation. A team of experts are camping round-the-clock at the site,” the spokesperson said, adding that the company would also cooperate with the inquiry committee instituted by the government.
A section of the elevated rail track that Gammon India was constructing to connect the Central Secretariat with Badarpur in the far south collapsed at Zamrudpur Sunday, killing six people and injuring 15.
On Monday, five other people were injured at the same site as three cranes and a launching girder toppled over.
The central government has assured action against those responsible for the accident.
“We will not spare any one, including Gammon India, if found guilty. We are yet to receive the inquiry committee report. Accountability will be fixed,” said Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corp is a joint venture between the central and Delhi governments.
“We followed highest safety measures and have safety engineers. We are an ISO certified company and prima facie I don’t find any mistake on our part,” Gammon India vice-president Umesh Gupta had said earlier.
“The contractor always becomes a soft target. I won’t comment more than this. Let’s wait for the inquiry committee report,” he had added.
