New Delhi, Feb 22 (Inditop.com) The government is committed to the rapid development of infrastructure in the northeastern states, President Pratibha Patil said here Monday.

“My government remains committed to the rapid development of infrastructure in the northeastern states. The special accelerated road development programme covering almost 10,000 kilometres is in progress,” Patil said addressing a joint sitting of both houses of parliament on the opening day of the budget session.

“This project will provide minimum two-lane national highway link to all the state capitals, and to each district in these states. This includes over 1,600 kilometres long Trans-Arunachal Highway,” she added.

The northeastern states of India are Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur and Mizoram.

“A special programme to provide home lighting systems to all border villages of Arunachal Pradesh is at an advanced stage of implementation,” Patil said.
