Kolkata, Nov 19 (Inditop.com) The West Bengal government has written a letter to the centre asking the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to highlight the Sundarbans issue in the Copenhagen climate summit, state Environment Minister Sailen Sarkar said here Thursday.
“I’ve written a letter to union MoEF minister Jairam Ramesh requesting him to highlight the Aila-hit Sundarbans during the Copenhagen negotiations next month,” Sarkar told reporters on the sidelines of a programme, “Climate Change Business Forum – Opportunities through Low Carbon Strategies”, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
He said that developed nations should help developing countries with technologies and financial support to tackle the climate change issue.
“The impact of climate change on Sundarbans is a global problem and I think it should be highlighted before the international community,” Sarkar said.
