New Delhi, Jan 31 (IANS) Delhi Urban Development Minister A.K. Walia Monday expressed concern over the lack of maintenance of infrastructure built during the recently concluded Commonwealth Games.
Peeling paint, loose grilles, potholes on roads, dirty foot over bridges, broken flower pots, debris on roadsides, uneven and shabby landscaping, broken signages, and non-functional traffic lights and street lights are some of the many problems plaguing the city, he said in a statement here.
‘With continued damage to the costly and modern infrastructure there is bound to be irreparable loss to the city’s glory which drew attention and praise from the visitors, sports persons, officials, common people and international community during the games,’ Walia said.
The minister has asked the various civic authorities including Delhi Development Authority, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and New Delhi Municipal Council, among other departments, to take cognizance of the situation and take immediate curative and precautionary steps.
In the letter to the agencies, the minister said that if such negligence continued during next few months, the infrastructure may suffer substantial damage and its repair become a very difficult task.
