Mumbai, Sep 28 (IANS) The Maharashtra government Wednesday said 999 villages in the state were facing water deficiency due to insufficient rains.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said the villages were facing a ‘scarcity-like’ situation. He added that water will be supplied to the areas by tankers and fodder depots for animals will also be set up.
The affected villages are located in western and northern parts of the state.
Sangli district was the worst-hit with 339 villages, followed by 274 in Satara.
Even though the state has received more than average showers this year, they have not been evenly distributed.
