New Delhi, June 1 (IANS) Maruti Suzuki Wednesday reported a 1.9 percent increase in sales for May with 104,073 units sold, compared to 102,175 in the corresponding period of 2010.

Domestic sales registered a 3.86 percent growth at 93,519 vehicles — up from 90,041 last year.

Exports of vehicles, however, dropped by 13 percent during the month. It exported 10,554 cars in the month under review, compared to 12,134 in May 2010.

During the month, the company’s A2 segment of cars, comprising models like Alto, Wagon-R, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz, saw a 2.6 percent drop in sales with 61,048 units sold.

Sales in the multi-utility vehicle segment, however, saw a spurt of 13.63 percent at 1,100 vehicles, compared to 968 units in May 2010.

In the van-type vehicle segment, consisting of Omni and Eeco, sales rose 20 percent to 15,545 units, compared to 12,953 units sold in May 2010.

The company managed to sell 50 units of its newly-launched premium sedan Kizashi in the month under review.

At the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company’s shares were up 1.15 percent to trade at Rs.1,241.65.
