New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked Minister of State for Finance (Expenditure and Financial Services) Namo Narain Meena to look after the day-to-day affairs of the ministry.

The Prime Minister’s Office issued a circular allocating additional responsibilities to Meena. This indicates that the prime minister might keep the finance portfolio for a longer time.
The prime minister took additional charge of the finance portfolio following resignation of Pranab Mukherjee, who is contesting the July 19 presidential election as the ruling UPA’s candidate.
As per the circular, Meena will be responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the ministry, including approving proposals of the expenditure finance committee and the public investment board.
Meena will be responsible for answering all starred and unstarred questions (after the minister-in-charge has been briefed on replies for starred questions) and all parliamentary work, including verification and authentication of notifications, other documents and reports which are required to be tabled in either house of parliament, the circular said.
