New Delhi, July 6 (Inditop.com) The government will set up an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) to look into the recommendations by the Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC), Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Monday.
“We are contemplating to set up an EGoM to implement the voluminous document of the ARC,” the prime minister told a news channel.
The ARC was appointed by the government for recommendations on revamping the public administration system.
Regarding the proposed food security act, Manmohan Singh said the government would invite discussions involving states and other stakeholders.
“I think only then we will get this legislation passed by parliament. It is too early now,” he said.
The proposed act is part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s “aam aadmi (common man)” poll agenda, which would alter the ambit of other food schemes.
According to him, the union budget for 2009-10 presented in parliament Monday carried forward the process of inclusive growth and social sector spending would benefit the poor.
Maintaining that the country desperately needed to revamp its security system, Manmohan Singh said: “I know that the police are understaffed. We will do everything to modernise our security and intelligence. That is our commitment.”
