Jetpur (Gujarat), April 24 (Inditop) The Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat has been taking credit for the success of the schemes floated by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Sonia Gandhi said Friday.
“The BJP government in Gujarat is claiming many of the UPA government schemes as its own and receiving praises for the same.
“The schemes for the welfare of the rural community such as Sujlam Suflam, Ladli and Dhanalakshmi are the UPA government schemes, which the state government is claiming as its own,” the Congress president said in her first election rally in Gujarat at this town in Rajkot district, about 250 km from Ahmedabad.
She said many industrial units in Gujarat were in fact on the verge of closing down though the Gujarat government was claiming about attracting huge investments.
“The fact remains that the BJP government in Gujarat still does not have any solution for the ailing diamond cutting and polishing industry and the jobless diamond workers in the state. Moreover, the UPA has never seen the scale of apathy towards farmers by a state government as seen in Gujarat,” she said.
The Congress-led UPA government has waived distressed farmers’ outstanding loans worth Rs.71,600 crore and that shows the government’s commitment towards the welfare of the farmers, she added.
Responding to the BJP’s charge that the UPA had failed in responding to the recent terrorist strikes, Gandhi said it was during the UPA government’s tenure that the Pakistan government had for the first time accepted that its soil had been used for cross-border terrorist activities.
