New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will dedicate the state-run NTPC’s Sipat thermal power project in Chhattisgarh to the nation on Thursday.
A power ministry release here said three units of 660 MW in stage I and 2 units of 500 MW in stage II of the 2,980-MW Sipat thermal power project are already operational.
“As part of NTPC’s Western Region II, NTPC Sipat will ensure power supply to the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman and Diu as also Dadra and Nagar Haveli,” it said.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will also lay the foundation stone of 1600 MW Stage-I of NTPC’s Lara super thermal power project in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district, the ministry said. The project shall have two units of 800 MW in stage I with an ultimate installed capacity of 4000MW.
The total installed capacity of NTPC is over 41,000 MW of which coal-based thermal power generation contributes nearly 32,000 MW.
