New Delhi, Sep 5 (Inditop.com) India’s Power Secretary H.S. Brahma Saturday sought an increase in allocation of gas from the Krishna Godavari basin to the power sector. A decision on this is to be taken by an ’empowered group of ministers’ (EGoM) that is yet to be constituted.

“We have written to the oil ministry to increase allocation of gas. The decision is to be taken by the EGoM. I hope it is taken soon,” said Brahma on the sidelines of an Indo-Japanese forum on eco-friendly technologies organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

The power ministry had sought an additional 40 million metric standard cubic metres a day (mmscd) of gas from the ministry of petroleum and natural gas for new power projects.

Gas-based power plants make for around 52 percent of the overall 151,000 MW of India’s installed power generation capacity.
