Bhopal, Jan 19 (Inditop.com) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi said Tuesday that he had discussed the “serious issue” of prices with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who assured him that the government’s efforts would “soon bear fruit” and prices would come down.
Describing price rise as a serious issue, Rahul Gandhi said: “I have already discussed the matter with the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and he has assured that the continuous efforts being made by his government would help curb the prices as soon as possible.”
“The central government is making the best possible efforts to control the price rise and its efforts would soon bear fruit,” Gandhi, who is on a two-day trip to Madhya Pradesh, said at a press conference here.
Discussing the issue of development of the Bundelkhand region that spans Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, he refuted charges that the central government was not doing enough for the poor of the region.
“The money sent by the central government does not reach the people of Bundelkhand in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. They are not able to utilise the funds sent by Delhi.”
The central government had in November last year announced a special package of Rs.7,266 crore for the development of the drought-hit region. Gandhi has been pushing for aid for the region.
“I don’t say that Bundelkhand should be a separate state but I am for its development because the region in both the states had never got due attention,” he said.
The MP later addressed a meeting of Congress workers at the party headquarters and called upon all members to be united.
“No power can defeat us if we are united. Whenever the Congress party has lost, it has been due to its own people and not the opponents,” he said.
