Chandigarh, April 8 (Inditop.com) Claiming that the state had registered the highest growth in value added tax (VAT) collection in the country, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal Thursday said Punjab would be targeting a Rs.100 billion (Rs.10,000 crore) VAT collection mark next year.

Badal told mediapersons at Kauli village, 35 km from here: “Resurgent Punjab has beaten the worldwide recession by recording highest ever VAT collection growth in the country.”

“VAT collection that could hardly reach the figure of Rs.5,000 crore (50 billion) in last 60 years of independence, jumped to Rs.8,150 crore (81.5 billion), registering average Rs.1,000 (10 billion) increase every year, during the last three years of the Akali-BJP government,” Badal said.

He added that the economy of Punjab had reclaimed its second position in the country, after touching rock bottom during the previous Congress rule in the state by being placed at the 24th position nationally.
