Chennai, Jan 3 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Tuesday announced additional funds of Rs.700 crore towards relief and restoration of infrastructure damaged due to Cyclone Thane.

She also said that she would visit Cuddalore district Wednesday and distribute the relief measures.

Cyclone Thane crossed the Cuddalore coast Friday packed with wind speed of 140 kmph leaving a trail of damage and destruction.

In a statement issued here, Jayalalithaa said a sum of Rs.700 crore has been allotted towards relief (for loss of houses, crops, cattle, boats) and restoration of infrastructure (power lines, roads, drinking water distribution) damaged by the deadly cyclone.

‘This is in addition to the Rs.150 crore announced on the day of cyclone,’ she said.

According to her, financial relief for people whose houses were damaged would be released by Jan 5.
