Kolkata, Aug 18 (IANS) Mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is planning to double its marketshare in smartphone category in 2010, a top official said here Wednesday.

‘We are expecting to touch 20 percent marketshare in the smartphone category by the year-end,’ Ranjit Yadav, director, mobile, told reporters after launching smart phones Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5.

Currently, the company has 10 percent marketshare in smartphone segment. This year the total market of smartphones in the country would be around 2.5 million units.

The Samsung Galaxy 3 is priced at Rs.12,300 and Galaxy 5 at Rs.10,200.

The company would launch 44-45 new handsets in the current year, out of which around 10 would be in the smartphones category, Yadav said.
