Mumbai, March 13 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian markets Tuesday provisionally closed 232 points higher with metals, energy and realty stocks leading the gainers.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 17,680.23 points, closed at 17,820.14 (provisional), 232.47 points or 1.32 percent compared to its previous close at 17,587.67 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also closed in the positive at 5,433.30 points, up 74.2 points or 1.38 percent from its previous close.
Broader markets closed in the green too with the BSE 500 index ending 1.25 percent higher. The BSE midcap index ended 1.28 percent higher while the BSE smallcap index moved up 1.11 percent.
