Mumbai, Sep 29 (Inditop.com) A key index of Indian equities markets Tuesday closed almost one percent higher than its previous closing figure Friday, with trading during the day remaining largely range-bound.
The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened higher at 16,829.11 points, shut shop at 16,852.91 points, 159.91 points or 0.96 percent higher than Friday’s close of 16,693 points.
The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), too, closed in the positive terrain at 5,006.85 points, up 0.97 percent.
Broader market indices similarly ended in the green, with the BSE midcap index closing 0.61 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index moving up 0.93 percent.
IT, pharma and telecom stocks found favour among buyers, while realty stocks came under some selling pressure.
Among the gainers on the Sensex were Sun Pharma, up 6.09 percent at Rs.1,390.85; TCS, up 3.98 percent at Rs.610.40; ICICI Bank, up 3.12 percent at Rs.864.80; and Wipro, up 2.71 percent at Rs.582.50.
Among the losers were SBI, down 2.26 percent at Rs.2,090.85; Grasim Industries, down 1.6 percent at Rs.2,788.80; Jaiprakash Associates, down 1.35 percent at Rs.234.15; and Reliance Communications, down 0.6 percent at Rs.299.75.
Most Asian markets were also in the green.
The Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed 90.68 points or 0.91 percent higher at 10,100.2 points.
The primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hang Seng, shut shop at 21,013.17 points, up 424.76 points or 2.06 percent.
The Kospi, benchmark index of the Korean Stock Exchange, was also in the positive terrain, moving up 14.5 points or 0.87 percent at 1,690.05 points.
However, at the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the benchmark SSE Composite ended marginally negative at 2,754.54 points, down 0.33 percent.
Key European indices were, however, trading in the red.
In Britain, the FTSE 100 index was ruling 21.07 points or 0.41 percent lower at 5,144.63 points, while its French peer, the CAC 40, was down 0.38 percent at 3,810.45 points.
Germany’s DAX was ruling flat at 5,708.76 points, down 27.55 points or 0.48 percent.
