Mumbai, Dec 21 (Inditop.com) A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets ended near its intra-day low Monday — losing 135 points from its previous close with capital goods, metals and auto stocks acting as a drag.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) — which opened at 16,724.84 points — shut shop at 16,584.24 points (provisional), down 135.59 points or 0.81 percent from its previous close at 16,719.83 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-stock S&P CNX Nifty, too, closed in the red at 4,944.35 points, against the previous close at 4,987.7 points, a loss of 0.87 percent.
Broader market indices, also gave up their gains with the BSE midcap index down 0.51 percent and the BSE small cap index ending 0.21 percent lower.
The market breadth was tilted towards the negative, with 1,281 stocks advancing, 1,534 scrips declining and 78 remaining unchanged.
