Mumbai, Oct 6 (Inditop.com) A key index of the Indian equities markets Tuesday climbed back into the green after ruling in the negative for most of the day. It shut shop 92 points higher than its previous close.
The 30-scrip benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, which opened at 16,879.38 points, shut shop at 16,958.54 points, up 92.13 points or 0.55 percent from Monday’s closing figure of 16,866.41 points.
It had slipped 244 points during the day.
The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too ended in the positive at 5,027.4 points, up 0.48 percent.
Broader market indices ended mixed, with the BSE midcap index gaining 0.19 percent and the BSE smallcap index losing 0.72 percent.
FMCG, metals and banking stocks found favour among buyers, while telecom and realty scrips came under some selling pressure.
The market breadth was negative with 1,039 stocks advancing, 1,685 declining and 79 remaining unchanged.
Among the gainers on the Sensex were Hindalco, up 6.05 percent at Rs.125.30; Hindustan Unilever, up 5.55 percent at Rs.281.65; Reliance Infra, up 5.17 percent at Rs.1,283.95; and ITC, up 3.52 percent at Rs.246.90.
Among the losers were Reliance Communications, down 10.64 percent at Rs.268.25; Bharti Airtel, down 10.22 percent at Rs.359.40; ACC, down 2.07 percent at Rs.797.50; and Wipro, down 1.61 percent at Rs.598.70.
Trading at other Asian markets was subdued.
The Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed 17.31 points or 0.18 percent higher at 9,691.8 points.
The primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hang Seng, was up 382.46 points or 1.87 percent at 20,811.53 points.
At the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the benchmark SSE Composite was ruling 0.9 percent up at 2,779.43 points.
However, the Kospi, benchmark index of the Korean Stock Exchange, was in the red, moving down 8.46 points or 0.53 percent to rule at 1,598.44 points.
European markets were ruling firm.
In Britain, the FTSE 100 index was ruling 1.56 percent higher at 5,102.49 points, while its French peer, the CAC 40, was up 1.33 percent at 3,723.79 points.
Germany’s DAX was ruling at 5,598.48 points, up 1.63 percent.
