Mumbai, June 1 (IANS) A benchmark index for Indian equities Tuesday fell during morning trade and was ruling 0.5 percent lower than its previous close.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,942.82 points, was ruling at 16,849.41 points, 95.22 points or 0.56 percent down from its previous close at 16,944.63 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling at 5,055.65 points, down 0.6 percent from its previous close.
Broader markets indices were still holding up, with the BSE midcap index ruling 0.42 percent up and the BSE smallcap index 0.47 percent higher.
