Mumbai, Nov 11 (Inditop.com) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Wednesday was trading 1.49 percent higher than its previous close as buying strengthened across the board early in the afternoon.

At 1.14 p.m., the 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened higher at 16,444.44 points, was ruling at 16,685.04 points, 1.49 percent or 244.08 points above its previous close at 16,440.56 points.

Around the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also higher at 4,957.95 points, up 1.56 percent from its last close.

Broader market indices were in the positive zone as well with the BSE midcap index 1.23 percent higher and the BSE small cap index 0.89 percent up.

The market breadth was positive, with 1,574 stocks advancing, 1,002 declining and 79 remaining unchanged.

Other Asian markets were in the green as well.

The primary index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hang Seng, was 272.14 points or 1.22 percent higher at 22,540.3 points.

The Kospi, benchmark index of the Korean Stock Exchange, was ruling at 1,594.82 points, up 12.52 points or 0.79 percent.

The Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed flat at 9,871.68 points, up 0.95 points or 0.01 percent .

The Shanghai Stock Exchange composite index was also ruling flat at 3,175.19 points, down 0.11 percent.
