New Delhi, Feb 1 (Inditop.com) Subir Raha, the former flamboyant chairman and managing director of India’s largest company, state-run ONGC Corp Ltd, died here after a long illness. He was 61.
Raha, who started his career as a management trainee at Indian Oil Corp, was at the helm of ONGC between 2001 and 2006.
He later formed Team Raha Ideation, a consultancy in the hydrocarbons sector. An alumnus of University of Leed’s MBA programme, he graduated from the Jadavpur University.
During his tenure as ONGC chairman, the company increased its gross sales from Rs.22,841 crore in 2001-02 to Rs.50,900 crore in 2005-06.
He was also concurrently chairman of ONGC’s overseas arm, ONGC Videsh, which went on an aggressive exploration search overseas. He was also responsible for the turnaround of the public sector exploration company’s only refinery, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical, in 2003-2004.
He was serving on several boards, including those of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Centre for Organization Development, Hyderabad, and Indian Management Institute, New Delhi.
He was also member of the Natural Resources Council of Gerson Lehrman group, a world-wide consultancy group.
