Chennai, June 1 (IANS) Commercial vehicle and car manufacturer Tata Motors Ltd closed last month with 41 percent volume growth as compared to previous years’ corresponding period.
Last month Tata Motors sold 56,779 units (domestic 52,801 units, exports 3,978 units) up from 40,196 units (domestic 38,392 units, exports 1,804 units) sold in May 2009.
The company sold 31,475 units of commercial vehicles in the domestic market last month as against 23,004 units sold in May last year.
In the passenger vehicles segment, Tata Motors reported a total sale of 23,489 units (21,326 units of Tata Motors and 2,163 units of Fiat) as against 16,563 units (15,388 units of Tata and 1,175 units of Fiat) last May.
The company sold 3,550 units of Nanos. Sales of Indica range went down by 15 percent to 8,468 units last month whereas the Indigo range of vehicles accounted for 6,600 units.
The Sumo and Safari range accounted for sale of 2,708 units, up by six percent over May 2009 sales numbers.
Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal are 113,978 units, a growth of 47 percent over 77,714 units sold last year.
