New Delhi, March 29 (Inditop.com) Representatives of the truck operators who announced an indefinite strike from April 5 to protest the recent hike in fuel prices will meet government officials Tuesday to discuss their demands.
G.R. Shanmugappa, president of the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), told Inditop that the truck owners will meet Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Kamal Nath to discuss the issue of fuel price hike and various other issues affecting the industry.
“If the government refuses to withdraw diesel price hike and address our problems, 70 lakh trucks plying across the country will be off the roads from April 5,” he said.
He also warned that all the 150,000 lorry booking offices spread across the country would be closed.
Shanmugappa said the strike would cause the exchequer revenue losses to the tune of Rs.5,000 crore every day.
He said the organisation has set April 4 as the deadline for the government to accede to their demands.
