Lucknow, May 3 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh will add 1,000 new buses to its fleet, an official said Thursday.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Transport Minister Raja Aridaman Singh. The new buses would replace the old ones, which have logged more than the permitted mileage.
The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corp Board Wednesday approved the purchase likely to cost the exchequer about Rs.150 crore.
“The decision has been taken in view of the growing number of defunct buses,” the official told IANS.
The department had cleared the purchase of 2,000 buses in 2011-12 during the previous regime of Mayawati.
