Lucknow, Sep 14 (Inditop.com) Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways R.P.N.Singh Monday said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government will undertake, within an year, the total road construction work done by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government during its five-year tenure.

“What the NDA had done (in road construction) during its five-year regime, we will complete the same just in one year,” Singh told reporters at a press conference here.

“To make it happen, our government has committed to lay 20 km of road on a daily basis. We are working on it seriously,” added Singh.

The minister said currently work on 29 road construction projects was being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Uttar Pradesh.

“By December 2010, we believe the state will get a network of nearly 500 km of roads under the work done in 20 of the 29 projects,” he said.

Singh said that the six-laning of the road between Delhi and Agra will start soon. “It would be the first six-laning project for Uttar Pradesh, for which we would go for the bidding process in October.”

According to the minister, preparation of a feasibility report for construction of ring road in Kanpur, Varanasi, Aligarh, Meerut and Lucknow was underway. “We believe we would get the first feasibility report from Varanasi,” he added.
