Chennai, March 31 (IANS) The Election Commission Monday announced it has decided to test the Voter’s Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) System in the Chennai Central constituency in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
A statement issued by the state’s chief electoral officer said voters will be provided the VVPAT system in all the 1,153 polling stations in the constituency — the only one in the state to have this facility.
“Under this facility, the voter would be able to see a printout of the symbol of the candidate he has voted for. The symbol would be printed by the machine and this would be visible through a glass window. The printout of the image would be retained in the machine,” the statement said.
